30-day Impoundment Period – Reclaiming Your Vehicle

Before the expiry of the 30-day impoundment period

To recover an impounded vehicle, the owner must first obtain authorization from the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) or a Court of Quebec judge.

Authorization by SAAQ:
Complete the required form and submit it at a point of service, or return it (by mail or fax) to SAAQ’s Service de la gestion des sanctions des conducteurs.

Authorization by Court of Quebec Judge:
Complete the required form and present it at the courthouse of the district where you wish to file the request.

If the decision of SAAQ or the Court of Quebec judge is favourable, you may go to the impound lot to recover your vehicle upon payment of towing and storage charges. In the event of a court judgement, you must present the court order.

At the end of the 30-day impoundment period

Arrange to meet with the impound lot representative; pay the towing and storage charges; take possession of your vehicle. After the 30-day period, a $15 per day storage charge shall apply.
